This is an archive of our 2001Coverage of the Toronto International Film Festival

Welcome to FILMFEST.CA and TORONTOFILMFEST.CA.

This year's festival promises to be an interesting one, showcasing films ranging from a Hughes Brothers Hollywood film about Hell (well, at least about a Ripper), to a French film about a commune with a running time approaching six hours.

The plan is to see as many flicks as possible and give you, the reader, a sense of this year's fest. There will be many appaling mistakes that are hopefully caught when I wake up in the morning, so forgiveness is asked for ahead of time (late night writing and a clear inability to spell without assistance may make for a twisted read, but at least I try hard).

The films I'm most looking forward to this year are the Midnight Madness entries. Colin, the programmer of the selections, has done what looks to be an exemplary job, bringing very interesting titles to what always promises to be a rowdy croud. As rumours float around that the Uptown will close after this years fest, the more flicks I catch there, the better.

The plan is to make FILMFEST.CA the destination site for readers wanting a Canadian perspective on world film festivals. I know this year will provide a big start to that dream. Thanks for reading, and please enjoy the site.
