25th TORONTO INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL
September 7 - 16, 2000

This site serves as a record of my thoughts recorded about the days and films of the 2000 Toronto International Film festival. Individual diaries may be found by clicking on the dates above, while an index of all films viewed may be selected by clicking the button on the top of each page.

All of these films were seen during the days of the festival. Many of my observations were clouded by the sheer number of films viewed during each day. However, it is heartening to know that some of my top pics, such as Requiem for a Dream and especially Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, have gone on to considerable success. For me, the key to a successful festival film is to cut through all the noise and present a quality product. Some films, like George Washington, did not meet with the praise or financial success I thought they deserved. Some films I'd certainly like less the second time 'round, some quite a bit more with some sleep and a chance to enjoy the film on its own. Nonelethess, I think these reviews present an honest portrayal of my thoughts and feelings during what I feel to be an incredibly strong festival year (this was of course born out by the fact that almost all of my favourite films of 2000 played during these ten days.)

It was a pretty amazing festival, full of (mostly) really good films and certainly good times. It will be a fest long remembered
